Printers With Highest Pages Printed Per Cartridge

February 10, 2012

If you want your printed pages to look great, you should not have to spend too much money to do so. Inkjet printers are loss leaders for manufacturers, who make up the rest of the money by selling higher-priced ink cartridges. This can eat up a great deal of your expenses and turn a lower-short term cost into a higher long-term one. Laser printers have toner cartridges that cost more than ink jet cartridges, but they last longer and print more pages, giving them a lower cost per page.

Laser printers range in price and quality, but all of them offer lower costs per page than inkjet printers. For example, the HP Deskjet 5150 costs four cents of ink per page and 13 cents per color page, while the Samsung CLP-500 color laser printer costs 1.7 cents per page and 8.1 cents per color page.

Despite the higher costs of the color laser printer, the cost-per-page savings can offset the cost of the printer and even recover it with time. If you print a lot of text documents in your home or your office, you need to keep these costs down because of the effect they can have on the bottom line. In addition to the lower cost per page, toners last longer than ink cartridges, adding additional savings to your bottom line.

Do not get sucked into buying an inexpensive ink jet printer without thinking the costs of ink first. You may find the larger initial investment of a laser printer more satisfactory in the long run.

  • I like this post about printers. It is good to see the differences in laser and inkjet printers. I didn't know that laser printer would be so much cheaper than inkjet printer. Thank you for this post. I think I'll buy new printer since I know the differences and I know which one is better! - Mariab1 on 3/23/2012

  • Great piece of information regarding printers. I did not realize that the cost per page would be lower on a laser printer. I guess it may be the best option in the long run after all. - MasterSeal on 3/30/2012

  • This is a fantastic reminder to keep in mind how much it costs to print a page of color or black and white. My tax refund is going to go towards a new printer and I need to start doing some research on this issue. - OfficeLady on 4/6/2012
