FAQs about Laser Printer Repair

If your malfunctioning laser printer is driving you crazy, take a look at some FAQs about laser printer repair. You can save a lot of money and frustration by following a few simple tips.
- Q: Did the laser printer suddenly stop?
- A: Try turning off the printer and shutting down your computer. After it has shut down all the way, do a reboot; following the restart, turn the printer back on. This clears the memory and often takes care of the problem.
- Q: Are your printed pages unreadable?
- A: Examine the ink in your laser printer's cartridge. When a computer is running low on ink, or if an ink cartridge is broken in some way, many printers do not work. Putting in a full cartridge can determine if low ink or a damaged cartridge is your problem.
- Q: Does it appear that your printer is not receiving printing instructions at all?
- A: Make sure your laser printer is set as the default printer. Occasionally, an old printer is set as the default printer, and the information for printing jobs is sent there. To check on this, go to your start menu and click on "Settings." Select the "Printers and faxes" option and look for your current printer on this list. Right click on the printer name and choose "default" before attempting to print.
- Q: Is the printer still not working?
- A: Check your connections, beginning at the back of the printer. Test all the connections to make sure they are pushed in all the way, and look at all of the cords as well. If your printer is plugged into a power strip or a surge protector, check to make sure it is turned on and operating properly. Trace the cords all the way back into the hard drive and check that those are fully connected.
- Q: Still having problems?
- A: You might need to update the drivers on the printer. Look on the original manufacturer's support section of their website. Look for an updated patch to take care of your problem.
